“Training of Trainers for Posyandu Cadres: Education on the Use of Traditional Medicine as Breast Milk Booster”
Pharmacy Study Program, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), Muhammadiyah University Makassar (Unismuh Makassar), organized a Community Service Program (PKM) in the Panaikang area, Pattallassang Village, Pattallassang District, Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, on Tuesday (October 4, 2022).
This activity was facilitated by the Research, Development, and Community Service Institute (LP3M) of Muhammadiyah University Makassar. Apt. Andi Ulfah Magefirah Rasyid, S.Farm., M.Si, as the head of the PKM team, explained the technical implementation of the activity held at the Merpati integrated health post, which is one of the health posts under the supervision of the Pattallassang Takalar health center.
This activity was carried out by providing counseling to mothers in Takalar with the theme “Training of Trainers for Posyandu Cadres: Education on the Use of Traditional Medicine as Breast Milk Booster,” which lasted for one day. “The purpose of this PKM activity is to provide education on the utilization of several plants that have the potential to boost breast milk production (Breast Milk Boosters) in terms of processing techniques and more rational use,” said Andi Ulfah in her statement.
Furthermore, Andi Ulfah stated that the activity began with counseling on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and provided education on the potential of several scientifically proven plants as breast milk boosters. She added that the activity was also continued with a demonstration of the processing and production of traditional medicine presented by PKM team members, namely Apt. Fityatun Usman, S.Si., M.Si., and Apt. Sri Widyastuti, S.Farm., M.KM.
“This aims to provide knowledge and skills to the participants, especially the posyandu cadres, to better understand and be able to apply knowledge about the utilization and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) of Traditional Medicine. Specifically, several types of traditional medicine that have been scientifically proven as breast milk boosters,” she added.
Through this activity, Ulfah continued, it is expected to become a source of information for breastfeeding mothers who have problems related to the implementation of exclusive breastfeeding programs. The activity was attended by the Merpati posyandu cadres as PKM partners, Sitti Rosminah as the TP-PKK (Women’s Welfare Development) representative of Pattallassang Village, and the Midwives from Pattallassang Pustu (Primary Health Center) (Asira, S.ST., Ikha Novita Dewi, and Nurhaena), as well as participants consisting of pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, lecturers, and several students from the Pharmacy Bachelor’s Degree Program, FKIK Unismuh Makassar.
The results of the activity showed that the participants gained knowledge about the types of traditional medicine, especially as breast milk boosters, along with the processing and production of good traditional medicine.

Program Studi S1 Farmasi, Fakultas Ilmu Kedokteran dan Ilmu Kesehatan (FKIK), Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh Makassar) menggelar kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) di Lingkungan Panaikang, Kelurahan Pattallassang, Kecamatan Pattallassang, Kabupaten Takalar, Sulawesi Selatan, Selasa (4/10/2022).
Kegiatan ini difasilitasi oleh Lembaga Penelitian, Pengembangan dan Pengabdian Masyarakat (LP3M) Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar. Apt. Andi Ulfah Magefirah Rasyid, S.Farm., M.Si selaku ketua tim PKM menjelaskan tentang teknis pelaksanaan kegiatan yang diadakan di posyandu Merpati yang merupakan salah satu posyandu binaan puskesmas Pattallassang Takalar. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan memberikan penyuluhan kepada ibu-ibu di Takalar dengan tema “Training of Trainers Kader Posyandu: Edukasi Pemanfaatan Obat Tradisional Sebagai Asi Booster” yang berlangsung selama satu hari. “Tujuan kegiatan PKM ini untuk memberikan edukasi tentang pemanfaatan beberapa tanaman yang berpotensi sebagai pelancar ASI (ASI Booster) dalam hal teknik pengolahan dan cara penggunaan yang lebih rasional,” kata Andi Ulfah dalam keterangannya.
Lanjut Andi Ulfah, kegiatan ini dimulai dengan penyuluhan tentang pentingnya pemberian ASI ekslusif dan memberikan edukasi tentang potensi beberapa tanaman yang terbukti secara ilmiah sebagai pelancar ASI (ASI Booster). Ia menambahkan, kegiatan ini juga dilanjutkan dengan demonstrasi cara pengolahan dan pembuatan obat tradisional yang dibawakan oleh anggota Tim PKM yaitu Apt. Fityatun Usman, S.Si., M.Si. dan apt. Sri Widyastuti, S.Farm., M.KM. “Hal ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kepada peserta khususnya para kader posyandu agar lebih memahami dan mampu menerapkan pengetahuan tentang pemanfaatan dan Cara Pembuatan Obat Tradisional yang Baik (CPOTB). Khususnya, beberapa jenis obat tradisional yang terbukti secara ilmiah sebagai pelancar ASI (ASI Booster),” tambahnya.
Melalui kegiatan ini lanjut Ulfah, diharapkan dapat menjadi sumber informasi bagi ibu menyusui yang memiliki masalah terkait pelaksanaan program ASI eksklusif. Kegiatan ini dihadiri oleh para kader posyandu Merpati selaku Mitra PKM, ibu Sitti Rosminah selaku TP-PKK Kelurahan Pattallassang, Bidan Pustu Pattallassang (Asira, S.ST., Ikha Novita Dewi, dan Nurhaena), para peserta yang terdiri dari ibu hamil dan ibu menyusui, dosen dan beberapa mahasiswa program studi S1 Farmasi FKIK Unismuh Makassar. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa peserta mendapatkan pengetahuan tentang jenis-jenis obat tradisional khususnya sebagai ASI Booster beserta cara pengolahan dan pembuatan obat tradisional yang baik.
