The Rector of Unismuh Makassar, Dr. Ir. H. Abd. Rakhim Nanda, S.T., M.T., IPU, described Nur Afiq’s accomplishment as exceptional. According to the Rector, graduating from a medical education program with such an outstanding GPA and within a relatively short period represents a remarkable academic achievement.
“This is truly exceptional. It is uncommon for a medical education student to attain such academic results. He achieved a GPA of 3.92 and completed his studies in only three years and six months,” he remarked during his graduation address.
The Rector further highlighted Nur Afiq’s international achievements and scholarly publications in reputable scientific journals. He noted that Nur Afiq exemplifies the profile of a Unismuh graduate who excels not only academically but also demonstrates strong scientific competitiveness at the international level.
In addition to Nur Afiq, two other graduates were recognized among the university’s top-performing graduates. Representing the outstanding graduates, Nur Afiq delivered a message emphasizing that achievement should never be regarded as the ultimate goal. Instead, he described achievement as a trust and responsibility that must be fulfilled through meaningful contributions to society.
“Achievement is not the final destination. It is a trust and a responsibility that must be accounted for through our tangible contributions to society,” he stated.
He also expressed his gratitude to parents and families, acknowledging that academic success is not solely an individual accomplishment but also belongs to those who have sacrificed, prayed for, and supported students throughout their educational journey.
“The degrees we receive today are, in truth, your degrees as well,” he remarked.
Addressing his fellow graduates, Nur Afiq reminded them not to regard their diplomas as the endpoint of their journey. Rather, he stressed that the true value of education is reflected in the extent to which graduates can contribute positively to society.
“This degree holds no meaning if it remains merely a piece of paper. The true value of our education will be measured by the impact and benefits we bring to society,” he said.
He further emphasized that graduation marks the culmination of an academic journey but not the end of personal and professional growth. Following graduation, he noted, graduates must begin a new chapter of life with humility, perseverance, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
“Today we stand at the peak of our academic achievement, but tomorrow we must begin climbing the ladder of life once again from the very bottom,” he reflected.
Nur Afiq concluded by encouraging his fellow graduates to uphold the good name of their parents, families, and alma mater through meaningful work and service. He expressed hope that the knowledge gained during their studies would become a source of lasting benefit and blessing for the wider community.
