The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) at Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar held a workshop on drafting new Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all work units within the faculty. The event took place on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. local time in the third-floor lecture hall of FKIK Unismuh Makassar.

The workshop aims to develop and update SOPs to meet the needs of academic activities, services, and faculty governance. The organizing director emphasized that drafting new SOPs is essential to improve work effectiveness and enhance the quality of health education services.

According to the committee, the event involved faculty leaders, lecturers, and staff from all study programs under FKIK. Participants were encouraged to actively provide input so that the SOPs produced would be truly relevant to real needs in the field.

“This workshop is the first step in restructuring the workflow within FKIK. With the new SOPs, we hope everyone can work under the same standards and in a more structured manner,” said one of the keynote speakers during the opening session.

He added that SOP development does not only concern administration but also covers academic services, student support, and research activities. “Every unit needs clear guidelines, so there will be no overlap or gaps in regulations,” he stressed.

In his presentation, the speaker explained that the SOP drafting process was carried out in a participatory way. Workshop participants were given space to present their problems and needs, then worked together to formulate solutions. This approach is expected to produce SOPs that are practical and easy to implement.

Several participants welcomed the initiative, noting that SOP updates have long been needed to keep pace with developments in medical and health education. One lecturer said, “With the new SOPs, we can be more consistent in delivering both academic and administrative services.”

The discussion also highlighted the importance of SOPs in preparing for study program and institutional accreditation. Some participants stressed that strong SOP documentation would strengthen the faculty’s position in facing external evaluations. The speaker further emphasized that SOPs serve as an internal quality assurance tool.

“All processes must be properly documented. SOPs provide evidence that we work according to standards and can be held accountable,” the speaker explained in a Q\&A session. He underlined that the involvement of all stakeholders is key to the success of this SOP development.

The workshop is set to continue with a finalization and evaluation phase of the drafted documents. The faculty expressed its commitment to implementing the new SOPs once ratified so that the benefits can be immediately felt by students, lecturers, and staff.

Through this workshop, FKIK Unismuh Makassar hopes to establish a governance system that is more systematic, transparent, and accountable. Moving forward, the new SOPs are expected not only to serve as written guidelines but also to be fully implemented in the daily practices of the faculty.
