Makassar – The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh) held a Baitul Arqam event for lecturers and staff on May 11-12, 2025, coinciding with 13-14 Dzulqa’dah 1446 H at the FKIK Unismuh Makassar building. This activity is part of the effort to strengthen Islamic values and enhance the quality of human resources within the FKIK Unismuh Makassar community.

Baitul Arqam (BA) is a form of development in Muhammadiyah focused on strengthening Islamic ideology and leadership. The purpose of this event is to deepen the understanding of Muhammadiyah’s essence, including the principles of correct worship and the role of Muhammadiyah as an Islamic movement committed to dakwah and tajdid in creating a truly Islamic society.

The event was officially opened by Prof. Dr. dr. Suryani As’ad, M.Sc., Sp.GK(K), Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, who, in her speech, emphasized the importance of strengthening spirituality and work ethics in fulfilling the duties of educators and education staff. “Baitul Arqam is not just a training, but also a form of dedication in shaping an Islamic character and strengthening our commitment as Muhammadiyah academics,” she said.

“The goal of Baitul Arqam is to enhance Islamic understanding and positive thinking among both lecturers and education staff at FKIK Unismuh Makassar, so that we all become quality individuals with a strong commitment to both ourselves and our organization, Muhammadiyah,” she added.

Also present was the Vice Rector III of Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar for Student Affairs, Alumni, Cadre Development, and Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan, who addressed the Baitul Arqam participants, encouraging them to follow the entire program. “Participating in this Baitul Arqam is expected to increase knowledge and experience, as well as to develop the habit of living an Islamic life, such as regularly reading the Qur’an, performing night prayers, and cultivating other good habits. Through this Baitul Arqam, we can remind and motivate one another as one unit of lecturers and staff at FKIK Unismuh Makassar,” he said.

This event was attended by 54 participants, consisting of lecturers and staff from FKIK Unismuh. During the program, participants received various materials such as Tawhid, Worship in accordance with Muhammadiyah’s Tarjih, Challenges for Muhammadiyah Doctors in the Disruption Era, Methods of Understanding Islam, Muhammadiyah Cadre Work Ethics, and the Muhammadiyah Islamic Living Guidelines (PHIWM).

Additionally, participants were encouraged to take part in group discussions, simulations, and experience sharing sessions to strengthen relationships among the academic community and build solidarity in facing challenges in the educational world.

With the Baitul Arqam event, it is hoped that the lecturers and staff of FKIK Unismuh will be further motivated to provide the best service in educating the nation’s future generation, with noble character and competence, especially in the field of Health Sciences.
