[Pangkep, November 24, 2023] – The Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah (BEM FK Unismuh), in collaboration with the faculty leadership, recently initiated a community service expedition to Lamputang Island. Held from November 24 to 26, 2023, the event specifically focused on providing essential health services, including prenatal examinations for expectant mothers and general health check-ups.

Overview of Community Service on the Island:
The joint efforts of BEM FK Unismuh and the Faculty Leadership aimed to proactively address healthcare needs in the Lamputang Island community, ensuring that residents have access to comprehensive and essential health services.

Prenatal Examinations for Expectant Mothers:
A dedicated team of healthcare professionals, including medical students, conducted prenatal examinations for expectant mothers. This crucial aspect of the community service initiative aimed to prioritize the well-being of pregnant women on the island, offering early detection of potential health issues and expert guidance on maternal care.

General Health Check-ups:
Simultaneously, the community service program included general health check-ups for all residents. Medical professionals from BEM FK Unismuh, alongside faculty leaders, provided free health screenings, encompassing crucial parameters such as blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and overall health assessments. The goal was to enhance preventive healthcare practices and foster a healthier community.

In his statement, [Reinaldy Aslam], Chairman of BEM FK Unismuh, expressed enthusiasm for this initiative. “This community service effort is evidence of our commitment to making a positive impact on the health and well-being of the Lamputang Island community. By collaborating with faculty leadership and Dompet Duafa, we hope to create sustainable benefits and foster a culture of health awareness.”

[Dr. Deddy S Razak Sp.OG], Representative of the Faculty of Medicine Unismuh, emphasized through research and community service units, in collaboration with BEM FK Unismuh and Dompet Dhuafa, conducted community service activities on Lamputang Island. The activities included health education, health check-ups, and ultrasound screenings for pregnant women. It is hoped that this activity will uplift the health standards of the Lamputang Island residents. Common concerns include the residents’ clean and healthy living behaviors, especially household waste management. The polluted environment and sea also have an impact. This can affect the health of Lamputang Island residents and residents of neighboring islands. Together, we strive to make a meaningful contribution to the health and well-being of the Lamputang Island population.”
