The 2023 Curriculum for the Medical Education Study Program is designed to produce competent and competitive graduates. The 5th semester plays a crucial role in shaping students’ competencies. To ensure that the curriculum is implemented effectively and aligns with student needs, a comprehensive evaluation and input from various stakeholders are essential, with particular emphasis on students as the direct beneficiaries of the learning process.

Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) are considered an effective method for collecting in-depth qualitative data on students’ learning experiences, challenges, and expectations regarding the courses they take in the 5th semester.

During this FGD, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, Prof. Dr. dr. Suryani As’ad, M.Sc., SP.GK(K), was also present and officially opened the event. “We are committed to producing future doctors who not only possess strong knowledge and skills but also have the right attitude to face the complexities of the modern healthcare world, while upholding the firm values of Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan as a moral and spiritual foundation in every professional step they take” he said.

I hope this FGD will encourage constructive dialogue, generate meaningful input, and ultimately contribute to the ongoing development of our medical education program, so that it can produce doctors who are not only clinically competent but also possess integrity and Islamic character” he added.

Relentless efforts for continuous improvement and refinement have been made, covering various aspects such as the learning process, teaching methods, evaluation techniques, and the enhancement of adequate facilities and infrastructure. These efforts aim to strengthen knowledge, skills, and attitudes and are systematically planned through internal evaluations aligned with the road map and strategic plan (Renstra) of FKIK Unismuh.

Additional program-specific competencies, such as Emergency Medicine and Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK), have been gradually, structurally, and systematically reinforced. The ultimate goal is to equip future FKIK Unismuh medical graduates with the necessary skills to face the evolving challenges of medical science, including the ability to manage patients, environments, organizations, and networks with greater accountability amidst the rapidly changing healthcare system.

This activity was attended by participants who had been invited in advance, such as Course Coordinators, Course Secretaries, and Department Heads. The facilitators for this event were Dr. Ummu Kalzum Malik, M.Med.Ed., Sp.PA., Dr. Dara Ugi, M.Kes., Dr. A. Tenri Padad, M.Med.Ed., Sp.KJ., Dr. Dzata Bahjah, M.HPE., Dr. Ami Febriza Achmad, M.Kes., and Dr. Nurmila, M.Kes., Sp.PD.
