The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (FKIK UNISMUH) successfully hosted the 3rd UNISMUH Medical and Health Science International Conference (UMEDHICON 2025) from 5–7 September 2025 at the prestigious Phinisi Hall, Hotel Claro, Makassar.

This year’s conference was held in conjunction with the ARC (Arrazi Research Competition), creating a unique platform that combined scientific discussion, academic collaboration, and research competition to inspire innovation among students, young researchers, and professionals.

Carrying the theme:
“Towards Health and Medicine 6.0: Integrating Multidisciplinary Approaches for Better Patient Outcomes”, the event reflects a global commitment to advancing personalized, predictive, preventive, and participatory healthcare systems.

UMEDHICON 2025 featured world-class keynote and plenary speakers who shared cutting-edge insights on healthcare innovation, biomedical research, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Distinguished speakers included:
• Dr. Liza G. Floresca, RN, MAN, PhD, DNS – Dean, School of Nursing, Ateneo de Davao University, Philippines
• Dr. Nur Faraheen Binti Abdul Rahman – Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia
• Yow-Pin Lim, MD, PhD – Brown University, USA
• Prof. Timothy J. Qiu, MD, PhD – Taipei Medical University, Taiwan
• Prof. Dr. Ashfaq Ahmad – University of Lahore, Pakistan
• Prof. Dr. Apt. Zullies Ikawati – Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia
• Prof. Dr. dr. Suryani As’ad, M.Sc, Sp.GK(K) – Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, Indonesia

The plenary sessions addressed advances in bioinformatics, biomedical engineering, diagnostics, therapeutics, public health, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, and medical education.

The conference engaged more than 100 participants from Indonesia and abroad through parallel oral sessions and mini symposiums. Tracks covered included: Medicine – Precision medicine, disaster management, emergency care, Nursing – Digital transformation in nursing education and practice, Midwifery – Maternal health innovations and predictive analytics for safe childbirth, Pharmacy – Drug discovery, pharmacogenomics, and telepharmacy solutions and Public Health – Epidemiology, disease prevention, and health system resilience.

The Ar Razi Research Competition, in conjunction with UMEDHICON, provided a platform for young researchers and students to showcase innovative projects, strengthening the spirit of academic excellence and healthy competition.

In his welcoming remarks, the Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, Dr. Ir. H. Abd. Rakhim Nanda, S.T., M.T., IPU, emphasized the university’s strong commitment to advancing science and technology for humanity:

“UMEDHICON is not only a forum for scientific exchange, but also a bridge that connects innovation, collaboration, and the values of Muhammadiyah. Through this international conference, we are strengthening our contribution to the global health agenda, while inspiring the younger generation to lead with knowledge, integrity, and compassion.”

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. dr. Suryani As’ad, M.Sc, Sp.GK(K), highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation in shaping the future of healthcare:

UMEDHICON 2025 has set new standards for strengthening international and inter-university collaborations, encouraging young researchers through competitions and symposiums, promoting technology-driven and patient-centered healthcare, expanding publication opportunities in indexed journals, and building a sustainable platform for academic innovation and health policy dialogue.
