The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) of Muhammadiyah University (Unismuh) Makassar held a Studium Generale and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Shigeru Suganami, M.D., Ph.D., President of the Association of Medical Doctors of Asia (AMDA).

The event took place at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine, Unismuh, on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

Unismuh Rector, Prof. Ambo Asse, and Shigeru Suganami signed the MOU, marking the collaboration between the educational institution and AMDA in the fields of research and development in the health sector.

The significant event was also attended by Chairman of AMDA Indonesia, Prof. Husni Tanra, and Vice Rector I of Unismuh, Dr. Abd Rakhin Nanda.

The signing of this MOU demonstrates the joint commitment to improve the quality of education and healthcare services in Indonesia, as well as to foster closer cooperation between the university and international medical organizations.

“This collaboration will bring many opportunities for progress in the field of health, and we hope it will provide significant benefits to society,” said Prof. Ambo Asse.

Meanwhile, in his introduction, Shigeru Suganami mentioned that apart from founding AMDA, he is also the founder of the Asian Medical Student’s Association (AMSA). Therefore, the collaboration between AMDA and AMSA can continue to work together and be beneficial to each other.

He gave a special message to the students, urging them to actively participate in voluntary activities to gain valuable experiences. He emphasized that it would be very beneficial for students in their future careers as doctors.

He emphasized the principle of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) in organizational activities. “Mutual cooperation can be applied in life anywhere in this world,” he added.

It is known that AMDA and AMSA have often volunteered in various disasters.

Meanwhile, the Faculty of Medicine at Unismuh emphasizes the characteristic of ’emergency care’, which is in line with the track record of AMDA and AMSA.
