This international lecture was held at the FKIK Building on the Unismuh campus on Saturday, July 22, 2023. The scientific event was attended by dozens of enthusiastic students eager to expand their knowledge about mental health promotion and substance abuse prevention in the Philippines.

Dr. Apple G. Alvarez, RN, MN, DNS, the Academic Coordinator of the School of Nursing at Ateneo de Davao University in the Philippines, was the keynote speaker at the event. “We are honored to have Dr. Apple G. Alvarez as the speaker in this international lecture. She is an experienced and dedicated figure in efforts to improve mental health and prevent substance abuse in the Philippines,” said Dr. Dara Ugi, M.Kes., a lecturer at FKIK Unismuh and the moderator of the event.

Dr. Alvarez delivered weighty content on transformative strategies in promoting mental health and preventing substance abuse in Filipino society. She also explained a caring framework for individuals affected by mental health issues and substance abuse.

The Head of the Midwifery Study Program, Daswati, S.Sit., M.Keb., added, “We hope this international lecture can provide new insights to the students of the Midwifery Study Program at FKIK Unismuh about the importance of mental health in society and how to design effective prevention strategies to address issues of substance abuse.”

The event also provided an opportunity for students to interact directly with the keynote speaker and exchange experiences with students from other Midwifery Study Programs. This is expected to enhance the quality of education in the Midwifery Study Program at FKIK Unismuh and inspire students to contribute more to efforts in improving public health.

FKIK Unismuh reaffirms its commitment to providing quality education and diverse learning opportunities for its students through this international lecture event. The knowledge and insights gained are expected to be implemented in real-world practices for the sake of mental health and community well-being.
