On September 12, 2023, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (UNISMUH) organized a Guest Lecture event with the theme “Nutrition on Diet”. This event was part of the MAKASSAR ACADEMIC AND CULTURAL HERITAGE PROGRAM (MACCA) 2023, which took place from September 7 to 14, and has now entered its fourth and final wave.

The event was attended by approximately 40 international students from four leading universities in Malaysia: Universiti Teknologi MARA Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Sabah Malaysia, and Universiti Malaya. In addition, the participants included dozens of students from FKIK UNISMUH Makassar who actively participated in this event.

The first speaker of the event was Prof. Dr. dr. Suryani As’ad, M.Sc., Sp.GK, the Dean of FKIK UNISMUH Makassar. She delivered a presentation titled “Nutrition on Diet in the Clinical Setting”. The presentation delved into the importance of nutrition in a clinical context.

Joining as speakers were two lecturers from the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition, Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Dr. Rovina Kobun presented on “The Role of Higher Education Institutions in the Development of Functional Foods”, while Dr. Siti Haswani Oslan discussed the topic of “FUNCTIONAL FOOD”, introducing the concept of functional foods and their benefits for health.

The event proceeded smoothly and professionally, thanks to the skillful moderation by Dr. Rima January Sp.GK. The discussion and interaction between the speakers and participants were productive and educational.

Following the presentation sessions, the participants, including the international students, were taken on a tour of the FKIK UNISMUH Makassar campus. They had the opportunity to directly observe the facilities available on campus, including laboratories, libraries, and a visit to the Unismuh Medical Center.

It is hoped that events like this will continue to be held to enrich the academic and cultural experiences of all parties involved.
